What does the author say about the differences between individuals when it comes to making eye contact, smiling, and applying body language? How does this relate to your experiences in the university setting?

Avoiding eye contact discourages greater intimacy by both men and women. Not only will eye contact itself make a difference, but so will the length of eye contact, as well as the person is doing the looking.  A smile is often taken for granted in the United States, whereas in other cultures such as Germany, smiling is not exchanged between sales clerks and customers. Body language involves the facial expressions, gestures, and postures that are necessary for people to get through everyday life and social settings.
