4 -- All individuals require some fat in the diet. It is important for the nurse to discuss this with the patient. A discussion with the parents and physician is likely warranted, but can wait until after discussion with the patient. The interaction will provide additional information concerning the patient’s knowledge of the needed dietary elements. A referral from the physician is needed in order to contact the dietitian.
