I have an algebra problem that goes like:
Kenisha sells athletic shoes part-time at a department stor. She can earn either $500 per month plus a 4% commission on her total sales, or $400 per month plus a 5% commission on total sales. Write a system of equations to represent the situation.

You need to invent some variables. Let her sales be "s" (dollars), and her total income be "i" in situation 1 and "j" in situation 2.

So:
i = 500 + 0.04s
j = 400 + 0.05s

You proabably then need to find what sales make it worth switching from situation 1 to situation 2. For that to be the case, you need to solve for i=j, i.e. find s under these conditions:
500 + 0.04s = 400 + 0.05s
