Why is there more wildlife in hills?

One obvious reason is that the valleys experience much higher development pressure. So there is a high degree of habitat loss and habitat fragmentation in these areas. The hills may act as a refuge for animals....In areas where there is not a ton of development in the valleys, the lack of species richness can be partially explained by the homogeneity of habitat.  There may be open land, with ample vegetation, but it is more homogeneous than the hills, for example, a large stand of oaks....The hills provide a greater amount of microhabitat: altitudinal gradient, temperature gradient, rocky outcroppings, north and southward facing slopes.....The greater amount of physical differences leads to a higher plant/fungi/invertebrate/ vertebrate diversity.....Overall, this is a generaliztion, there are certainly cases where the lowlands would have higher biodiversity (in a large wetland for instance).....And there is also always the chance that you simply pay more atention to wildlife when you are strolling through the hills, than when you are in the suburbs. Where many species (raccoons, skunks, house sparrows, etc.) have taken advantage of suburban life.

theres more wildlife there cause man hasnt invaded their territory and killed them off..

im from the mountains of wva and there are all kinds of beautiful animals living there..

Safer from most natural disasters maybe? Getting away from the humans? More hiding spots for predators and hiding spots for prey?

There are fewer humans.

because the most retarded, selfish animal on the planet, the human thinks they control everything so the build giant cities, that push animals that were their first farther and farther away.
