How Do Thyroxine and TSH Affect Metabolism?

Question 1
What is the oxygen consumption per hour for the normal rat (ml/hour)?

Question 2
Now that you have the amount of oxygen used per hour by the normal rat, determine the oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight per hour. (Note that you will need to convert the weight data from g to kg.)

Question 3
What is the oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight per hour for the thyroidectomized rat?

Question 4
What is the oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight per hour for the hypophysectomized rat?

Question 5
How did the metabolic rates of the three rats differ? Why did they differ?

Question 6
What is the oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight per hour for the normal rat with thyroxine injection?

Question 7
What was the effect of thyroxine on the normal rat's metabolic rate? Why was this effect seen?

Question 8
What is the oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight per hour for the thyroidectomized rat with thyroxine injection?

Question 9
What was the effect of thyroxine on the thyroidectomized rat's metabolic rate? Why was this effect seen?

Question 10
What is the oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight per hour for the hypophysectomized rat with thyroxine injection?

Question 11
What was the effect of thyroxine on the hypophysectomized rat's metabolic rate? Why was this effect seen?

Question 12
What is the oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight per hour for the normal rat with TSH injection?

Question 13
What was the effect of TSH on the normal rat's metabolic rate? Why was this effect seen?

Question 14
What is the oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight per hour for the thyroidectomized rat with TSH injection?

Question 15
What was the effect of TSH on the thyroidectomized rat's metabolic rate? Why was this effect seen?

Question 16
What is the oxygen consumption per kilogram of body weight per hour for the hypophysectomized rat with TSH injection?

Question 17
What was the effect of TSH on the hypophysectomized rat's metabolic rate? Why was this effect seen?

The forum rules are 1 question per thread... You have >10

The normal rat’s metabolic rate is faster than the metabolic rates of the thyroidectomized and hypophysectomized rats. The thyroidectomized rat lacks a thyroid, thus produced no thyroxine. The hypophysectomized rat lacks a pituitary gland, thus produced no thyroid stimulating hormone to stimulate thyroxine production. Because the normal rat produced thyroxine normally, its metabolic rate was faster than the other rats.
