Suppose someone told you that the activities of a pregnant female have no effect on the embryo during early embryonic development because the placenta is not fully formed until later. How would you respond to this statement?

This is certainly an inaccurate statement because the embryo is particularly susceptible to damage during periods of rapid development, some of which occur prior to complete placental development. Often, some of this damage can be done before the female even realizes that she is pregnant.
