While there is no cure at the moment, HSV can be treated with oral antiviral over the counter topical ointments. There are also stronger ones a doctor can prescribe if an over the counter does not work.
On the bright side, we are coming close to a possible vaccine!  There is a current vaccine being developed for HIV that has been tested on monkeys (no human trials yet) that has proven EXTREMELY promising. But there's a bonus! It has also been showing promises of being a vaccine  to prevent HSV as well! How cool is that?!
