Mercury has extensive sparsely-cratered plains. What is the significance of these plains compared to features on the Moon?

(a)   They are older than most of the lunar maria but younger than the lunar highlands.
(b)   They are lava-filled asteroid impact basins of the same age as the lunar maria, but have been weathered by Mercury’s intense sunlight so they no longer look dark.
(c)   They are the same age as the lunar highlands (about 4.6 billion years old), but are more sparsely cratered because Mercury is farther from the asteroid belt.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
