What might explain the conclusion that Californians seem to have developed an unusual toleration of religious differences?
 
  a. The California State Constitution followed the federal Constitution in its establishment of a clear separation of church and state and religious tolerance.
  b. The Gold Rush created an environment where people earned respect based on their success and prosperity, not their background.
  c. California had always been a diverse state where difference mattered little.
  d. Being able to observe Chinese spirituality amongst them, most Californians came to the conclusion that religious differences mattered little.
