I remember doing a lab in my 4th grade science class which consisted of observing the germination of seeds. We used a petri dish and moist cotton balls, instead of soil, for the seeds to grow on. How come the cotton balls worked just as good as the soil would have?

it can also grow in wet paper towel as well if there is enough water and light-it is possible for seeds to grow in moist places.
