The nurse manager is interviewing staff to work on the AIDS unit in the hospital and asks the applicants this question: How do you feel about working with clients who have AIDS?

The best candidate for the position would be the applicant who responds:
  1. I know I will have to be more careful on this unit, especially with injections and IVs.
  2. I firmly believe there will soon be a cure for AIDS.
  3. I have done extensive research on AIDS and understand the disease.
  4. I believe that everyone is worthy of the best care I can provide.

This response shows a belief in the worth and dignity of each client. It suggests that the nurse will be able to be accepting and nonjudgmental. Option 1 shows lack of understanding of uni-versal precautions. Option 2 does not answer the question. Option 3 sidesteps the issue.
