Based on research by Markman and colleagues, all of the following are good rules to facilitate successful couple functioning EXCEPT
 
  A) when your partner does a chore, show appreciation rather than pointing out the flaw in the performance.
  B) try to speak for your partner regarding what he or she will like or dislike.
  C) if you don't have anything nice to stay, keep quiet.
  D) when you have an opinion, say it directly rather than trying to get your partner to guess what it is.
