A patient on levodopa for Parkinson's disease tells the nurse, I just began taking a medication for severe depression. The nurse should ask the patient which antidepressant was prescribed because:

  1. some antidepressants can make the levodopa levels higher and produce toxicity.
  2. the levodopa will increase the effects of the antidepressant.
  3. carbohydrates should be avoided when taking levodopa and an antidepressant concurrently.
  4. a hypertensive crisis can occur when certain antidepressants are taken concurrent with levodopa.
