Pedigrees can be used to track genetic disorders within families. Individuals with hemophilia can trace the inheritance of these genes back through their family heritage in order to identify the source of the trait. Genetically, these family trees of inheritance can be used to determine the exact generation in which a disorder appears or which individual may have been a carrier for the disorder and whether a couple should risk having a child with a particular trait.
