A mother has brought her daughter to the clinic for the fifth time in one month. The mother is claiming that her daughter is exhibiting signs of a rare form of cancer. The child appears well upon assessment.

The nurse should be concerned that the mother: 1. Is overprotective.
   2. Is exhibiting signs of Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
   3. Is overly concerned.
   4. Is causing her child to undergo un-needed medical procedures.

Feedback
1. The mother may be overprotective, but the indication of assessing for rare diseases is a warning sign requiring further investigation.
2. The characteristics are that of Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
3. Information about rare forms of cancer is not normal. The amount of times in the clinic is also not normal.
4. The mother is causing her child to undergo un-needed medical procedures, which is a characteristic of Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
