The parents of a 3-year-old are concerned because their child is still sucking her thumb at naptime. The nurse advises the parent that thumb-sucking:

  b. Is instinctive and normal

Thumb-sucking is normal, instinctive behavior at this age. This will not harm the teeth as long as it goes away before the second teeth erupt.
