The purpose of the intrauterine pressure catheter is to accurately monitor uterine activity. Monitoring of the fetal stress during the contraction is characteristic of external monitoring of internal fetal pressure catheter. Measuring the amount of amniotic fluid present is accomplished through ultrasound. The nurse monitors uterine muscle tone during contractions.
