If a woman complains of back labor pain, the nurse could best suggest that she:

  a. Lie on her back for a while with her knees bent.
  b. Do less walking around.
  c. Take some deep, cleansing breaths.
  d. Lean over a birth ball with her knees on the floor.

ANS: D
The hands-and-knees position, with or without the aid of a birth ball, should help with the back pain. The supine position should be discouraged. Walking generally is encouraged.
