The figure below shows the spread of amphibian decline in eastern Australia.
 
  How can you use the equation for the trendline displayed in the figure to obtain an estimate of the annual rate with which amphibian decline spread northward in eastern Australia? What is the estimate provided by the trendline? (Use the scale of the figure axes to derive correct units for the rate of spread)

ANS:
The equation for the trendline is Y = 99X  4.5. 99 is the slope of the equation and does represent the rate of spread. Spread is estimated as 99 km/year.
