In the past, many hominins coexisted, such as Paranthropus robustus and Paranthropus boisei.

Imagine that these species were not prezygotically isolated and occasionally formed hybrids. Why might sterility or inviability of hybrids be limited to one sex? In which sex would this occur and what pattern does this represent?

What will be an ideal response?

ANS:
Haldane's rule predicts that if one sex formed from the hybridization of species is at a fitness disadvantage, then it will be the heterogametic sex. Hominin males are the heterogametic sex and are therefore likely to be the sterile sex.
