As Europe moved from the High Middle Ages to the Renaissance, drama began to flourish. What was this time period like for those living then? What aspects of the culture at this time encouraged the development of secular drama?

The Renaissance marked a switch in people's lives, moving from being spent in preparation for Judgment Day to exploring reason, intellectual curiosity, and creativity. Major changes during this time, including the printing press, the humanist revolution, and the Reformation, contributed to more secular pursuits among the population, including secular theatre.
