Local anesthetic drugs such as lidocaine block sodium ion channels in the neuron plasma membrane from opening. What effect would this have on action potential generation and conduction.

Thank you for all your help!  Slight Smile

Sodium channels are essential for firing action potentials. Action potentials are the main way that the neurons communicate. An organism with sodium channels blocked would probably die because without action potentials we would be unable to receive sensory stimulation, contract some muscles (smooth and skeletal), and much more.
