What accounts for the difference in size between the primary transcript and the coding sequence?
This question is related to the gene we are studying in class, the TPA gene (tissue plasminogen activator). If someone could give me an explanation it would be much appreciated!

I am assuming you mean difference between the mRNA? The primary transcripts contain both Exons and Introns. Mature RNA or mRNA have been spliced and only have Exons ( introns have been removed) they are non coding. Additionally mature RNA also has a Poly A tail, a 5' Cap added and sometimes can be edited ( producing shorter pro, from addition of early stop codon. This is why there is a size difference
