I have a nutrient question: the relationship between smoking and low birth weight?

The only thing I can think of is that nicotine and cyanide in cigarettes are toxic to the fetus, any one want to elaborate?

Here is some other points to consider:

  • Smoking limits the oxygen delivered to the fetus
  • Can damage fetal chromosomes
  • Risk of low-birthweight baby
  • Increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
  • Even environmental tobacco smoke is unhealthy

Yeh, basically when you smoke, you are increasing the amount of toxins in your blood. Although smoke toxins are not as bad as alcohol during pregnancy in my judgement, i still this it should be avoided at all costs.
