The Arab-spring was a
complete and utter failure. It was considered a "democratic uprisings" that arose on its own and spread across the Arab World in the year 2011. A 26-year-old Tunisian by the name of
Mohammed Bouazizi was the initiator of the movement. Everywhere that it occurred - namely in countries that are a dictatorship - lead to political chaos, and in turn, to violence and unsurmountable death tolls.
The idea behind the movement was that if enough people stood up to the government, these dictators would fall from their power. Technically, the people wanted more freedom, but when they got their freedom, a power-vacuum erupted, and people didn't know what to do with it. Remember that these people have been suppressed for generations, and the majority were still devout Muslims. In Islam, your religion comes first and foremost. Hence, many of those that gained power, instantly applied the morality of their religion to new government laws. Some of which were harsher than those appointed by the previous government!
In Tunisia, there have been a lot of youths who have joined terrorist group like the ISIS, so as to gain the freedom they want. This is because Tunisia is not governed by any democratic laws that fear its citizen. In Egypt’s case, the inexperienced Muslim Brotherhood wasn’t replaced by a more democratic alternative but by a resurgent and reinforced military dictatorship – General Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi. The army had learned its lesson and was determined to increase its stranglehold on power and the Egyptian economy, even at the price this time of hundreds of deaths of protesters on the streets.
