Check conditions: They polled randomly selected Americans, there are 0.44 . 850 = 374 successes and 476 failures, both of which are greater than ten, and there are more than 10∙850 = 8500 American adults. Conditions are met.
The 95% CI is 0.44 ± 1.96 = (0.407, 0.473)
We are 95% confident that the proportion of all American adults who have a gun in their home is between 40.7% and 47.3%.
b. If we were to collect many samples of 850 randomly selected Americans, and construct a confidence interval for each sample, about 95% of those confidence intervals would capture the proportion of all American adults who have a gun in their home.
