On my Earphone, there are two wires designated as R & L.

This means i have to connect the R earphone wire to my right ear & the L earphone wire to my left ear.

What will happen if i interchange the R designated wire to my Left ear & L designated wire to my Right ear?. i.e. interchange.

Thanks & Regards,

Thanks.

Did you find any difference after you interchange the wires listening the same song
twice?
I did not find any difference.

No difference at all, changing the polarity won't change the sound.

Thank you.

So why there are two letters L & R respectively in the earphone wires?

Assumptions
-------------

L stands for Left ear connections

R stands for Right ear connections.

They're labelled L and R because of their oreintation. The left earbud is built to fit into the left ear, the right is built to fit the right ear, that's all.

Thank you.

But after interchanging wires in the two ears, we could not find any difference in terms of sound /audio hearing from the same song?

I think biolove is referring to the way earbuds are made only to fit one side of the ear correctly. In addition, some songs will increase the intensity of sound at one ear depending on the beat that's produced. That's another reason why they're labelled the way they are too

Thank you.

It could or maybe be in case of wireless earbuds because when i check with my wired earphones both the earbuds wires are fitted properly in both the ears even after interchanging.

That's strange b/c usually they're specific for your specific ear shape.

Anyway, many songs take advantage of "panning" , this is when music goes from one ear to another. Changing the polarity might mess up with that. Only way to test is to hear music that uses the "panning" technique, and see if it changes the effect.

Great song...

Good example of panning:

Try testing how this sounds with opposite polarities
