In a study by Bozarth and Wise (1985), rats were given unrestricted access to cocaine for 30 days. What were their observations from this study?

▸ The rats used a lot of cocaine initially and then stopped using it when it started to get in the way of their eating.

▸ Eighty percent of the rats refused to use it because the effects were so negative.

▸ Five percent developed physiological dependence. The rest of the rats were reasonable in their use of the drug.

▸ Ninety percent of the rats died within the 30 days due to their unending use of the cocaine.
