Answers may vary, but should include the following for full credit:
The relative impact of genes and environmental influences in the development of most psychological disorders is an important part of understanding their etiology. A gene-environment interaction means that a genetic predisposition to a disorder may be present in an individual, but it will only be expressed if the person is exposed to the appropriate (often stressful) environmental conditions during a critical developmental period. A gene-environment correlation means that having a genetic predisposition to a disorder leads a person to seek environments that then increase the probability that disorder will be expressed.
