How might locus of control relate to a person quitting cigarette smoking?

▸ Someone with an external locus of control might blame the addictive qualities of nicotine, switch to nicotine gum, and quit more easily than someone with an internal locus of control.

▸ Someone with an internal locus of control would take the blame for being too weak to quit and would probably give up trying.

▸ Someone with an external locus of control would contend that because family and friends are always smoking, quitting is just too hard and would not quit.

▸ Because nicotine is so addictive, someone with an internal locus of control would see the drug as able to overpower internal choice and find it very difficult to stop.
