In corn, a colored aleurone is due to the presence of a R allele; r/r is colorless. Another gene controls the color of the plant, with g/g being yellow and G_ being green.  A plant of unknown genotype is test-crossed, and the following progeny plants were obtained.

A) What was the phenotype and genotype of the plant used for the test-cross?

R G/r g

R G/R G

R G/R g

r g/r g

B) What is the genetic distance of these two genes?

9.2

24

12.4

10.8

A)

G_R_ = green

ggR_ = yellow

G_rr = colourless green

ggrr = colourless yellow

Testcross is always performed using homozygous recessive parent.

r g/r g = colourless yellow

B)

Distance between two genes = number of Recombinants / total number of progeny × 100

Number of recombinants is very less as compared to the parental progeny which is present in maximum number.

Distance between genes = (13 + 9) / (13 + 9 + 89 + 92) × 100 = 22/203 × 100 = 10.83 mu
