Use the following to answer the questions below:

Data were collected on GPA and number of Facebook friends for students in a small statistics class. Some summary statistics, partial output from the regression analysis, and a scatterplot of the data (with regression line) are provided. Assume that students in this class are typical of all students at the university.

Use three decimal places when reporting the results from any calculations, unless otherwise specified.

VariableMeanStDevMinimumMaximum
GPA3.20670.41182.40003.9500
FacebookFriends677.9307.2 185.01500.0

The regression equation is GPA = 3.830 - 0.000919 FacebookFriends

A scatterplot with a regression line shows the relationship between number of Facebook friends and G P A. The horizontal axis is labeled, Number of Facebook friends and ranges from 0 to 1600 in increments of 200. The vertical axis is labeled, G P A and has markings from 2.50 to 4.00 in increments of 0.25. A regression line starts from (200, 3.675), decreases toward the right, and ends at (1500, 2.45). The dots are randomly scattered, such that a few dots lie above the regression line, a few dots lie below the regression line, and a few dots lie on the regression line. The dots are plotted between the points, 200 to 1500 on the horizontal axis and between the points, 2.10 to 3.95 on the vertical axis. The concentration of the dots is more between the points 300 and 1100 on the horizontal axis and between the points, 2.75 and 3.75 on the vertical axis. An outlier lie at the point, (1500, 2.30). All values are approximate.

The correlation between GPA and number of Facebook friends is -0.686. Use the correlation and α = 0.05 to test for a linear association between GPA and number of Facebook friends. Include all details of the test.
