Why do humanist therapists concentrate on the “here and now” instead of on the “why and how”?

Humanists are not interested in digging up the past.
They assume that human nature is basically good, and that people have the free will to choose to change their lives if they want to, regardless of what happened in the past.
They focus on helping the person to develop the will and confidence to change and achieve his or her goals.
This is why they are said to concentrate on the “here and now” rather than the “why and how.”
