Which organisms provide most of the nutrient supply on the ocean and are at the bottom of the ocean food web?

Most of the nutrient supply to the surface ocean comes from the mixing and upwelling of cold, nutrient rich water from below. The geographic distribution of phytoplankton also is a large factor. Thanks for using ChaCha!
