How does a syndesmosis differ from a symphysis, even though both are classified as amphiarthroses?

Amphiarthroses permit very little movement, but a syndesmosis is connected by ligaments in a region such as the connection between the distal tibia and fibula. A symphysis allows little movement also, but in this case the bones are separated by a pad or wedge of fibrocartilage, as in the pubic symphysis.
