The drawing shows three identical springs hanging from the ceiling. Nothing is attached to the first spring, whereas a W = 5.07-N block hangs from the second spring. A block of unknown weight hangs from the third spring. From the drawing, determine the spring constant (in N/m) and the weight of the block hanging from the third spring.

The drawing shows three identical springs hanging from the ceiling. Nothing is attached to the first spring, whereas a 4.93-N block hangs from the second spring. A block of unknown weight hangs from the third spring. From the drawing, determine (a) the spring constant (in N/m) and (b) the weight of the block hanging from the third spring.

unstreched length=20 cm
for 2nd spring,delta(x)=35-20=15 cm
mg=kx
k*delta(x)=4.93 N
k=4.93/0.15=32.86 N/m

for 3 rd spring,delta(x)=50-20=30 cm
mg=k*delta(x)=32.86*0.30=9.858 N

a)spring constant=32.86 N/m
b)weight =9.858 N
