When Einstein proposed his General Theory of Relativity, he suggested some pretty strange ideas about space, time, and gravity. How did scientists in 1919 show that Einstein's theory described the behavior of the real world and wasn't just a crazy hypothesis?

by using an H-R diagram for a nearby cluster of stars

by dropping different weights from very tall buildings

by finding x-rays from a black hole

by discovering the process of nuclear fusion

by observing starlight coming close to the Sun during an eclipse

There was a total solar eclipse observable in South America in which they were able to precisely measure the position of stars nearly in line with the sun.  Their positions had shifted on accor with the bending of light predicted by Einstein.

Starlight.  One of the predictions of the theory is that light will be bent by gravity - the starlight that had been thought to be prevented by the sun from being seen was found to have bent around the sun and could be seen even though it was behind the sun.

You know, you're not fooling anyone. I can tell that is this a homework question. Do your own research. Isn't this stuff interesting enough to explore for yourself without trying to get people on yahoo answers to do all the exploring for you?

none of the above ,,,,,,,he hired 2 irish painters finishing up painting a field house in edinborough in 1917 to test his theory by standing 200 ft apart, one with a flashlight, the other with a notepad & pencil,,,,,,,,one would turn on the flashlight pointing at the other fella, who would duly write down the length of time for the ray to arrive,,,,,,,,,with excellent lab technique, they repeated the experiment both sober and toddling,,,,,,,and found that a wee bit of schnapps improved accuracy,,,,gravity works a bit slower under the influence.
