I learned recently that you can solve squares with the equation above.

For example:
13.7^2 = 187.69
(12.7 * 14.7) + 1 = 187.69

I'm having trouble doing this the other way around though.

Say I want to find the square root of 15,371.87

That means:
15371.87 = y(y+2) + 1

15371.87 = y^2 + 2y + 1

Do I have to graph this? Can I do it without graphing it?
I know this should be simple, but I can't remember my high school math classes Confounded Face
What I'm trying to do, is find the square root in a purely algebraic way, without guesses, or known roots.
