I'm wondering whether or not a typical G protein-coupled receptor is responsible for activating a single alpha subunit, or whether it acts as an enzyme and catalyzes multiple such activation events.

My gut reaction is that it is enzymatic, so some amplification would occur.  If you know one way or the other, I'd love to hear from you.  I'd also like to read about it, so if you know of a good website dealing with the topic would you post a link?

Thank you.
