Plants were designed to take carbon dioxide in & release oxygen. Since humans exhale C02, there wouldn't be a situation where there "was no carbon dioxide" available. The more plants, the less C02 buildup in our atmosphere. The Calvin cycle explains processes that go on inside of plants, to convert light & C02 into energy.

Calvin cycle is what fixes inorganic atmospheric carbon dioxide into organic ribulose biphosphate sugar molecules before further processing. Should there be no carbon dioxide supply it would cease to operate.

Under normal conditions it has to replenish its ribulose biphosphate so it can carry on fixing more carbon dioxide.
