You have arrived on the scene of a motor vehicle collision. The adult male patient is out of the vehicle and walking around. He says he does not need an ambulance and does not want you to assess him. The first thing you should do is:
A) have him sign a refusal of treatment, but let him know he can call back if he changes his mind.
B) have the patient write and sign a statement that he does not want assessment, treatment, or transport.
C) cancel the incoming EMS unit.
D) explain that the excitement of the collision may cause him not to notice injuries and you'd like to examine him.
