Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium is a sort of evolutionary null hypothesis wherein genotype and allele frequencies remain the same from generation to generation. If Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium does not apply, then there is some kind of evolutionary force at work.

Assumptions b, c, and d all rule out different evolutionary forces- genetic drift, migration, and mutation respectively.

Assumption a, meanwhile, is nothing less than sexual selection, which will change allele frequencies in the population over time. The answer is A.
