Gene therapy may help people who have genetic disorders. Gene therapy targets body cells only and not the gametes (egg and sperm cells). What risk is avoided by targeting only body cells? Explain your thinking.

By only targeting somatic cells (non-gamete producing cells that undergo mitosis only), any risk caused by the treatment will be felt only by the individual receiving treatment. There will be no chance of passing it down to the individual offspring. Smiling Face with Halo
