I'm starting Mercilon in a few days - the doctor had said that because its a low-dose pill, there shouldn't be too many side-effects. I know women have different experiences, but I have read lots of online reviews that were really negative. Could you share any experiences of being on this pill?

Any side effects vary by person. Some people cannot tolerate any hormonal birth control without becoming naesous and sick.....other people are fine with certain types but not others, and other people have hardly any side effects. The most common things to expect is that the first month, you will feel more moody, hyper, horny, or tired than usual as your body gets used to the hormones in the pill. Also you might get PMS before the period. Some people will gain a few pounds from the pill....but eating healthy and exercising regularly can correct for this. Anyway, see if the side effects go away after a month or two on the pill and if not, ask your doctor about switching to one that works better for you.

That contraceptive is one I've never even heard of, so must be fairly new, which is probably why you can't find much documented on side effects. You may have some, or may have none. As someone said, saide effects always vary from person to person. For some reason, I'm the type of person who never experiences the typical side effects of medications, but am always that one in hundres of thousands who experiences something really, rare, weird and bad. You never know.
