to grow.
they go to the shaded side of a plant if half of the plant is in sunlight, and this results in the shaded side growing more than the side in sunlight and the plant stem is curved

Auxins derive their name from the Greek word Neutral FaceNeutral Face (auxein - "to grow/increase"). They were the first of the major plant hormones to be discovered.

The (dynamic and to environment responsive) pattern of auxin distribution within the plant is a key factor for plant growth, its reaction to its environment, and specifically for development of plant organs (such as leaves or flowers). It is achieved through very complex and well coordinated active transport of auxin molecules from cell to cell throughout the plant body ? by the so-called polar auxin transport. Thus, a plant can (as a whole) react to external conditions and adjust to them, without requiring a nervous system. Auxins typically act in concert with, or in opposition to, other plant hormones. For example, the ratio of auxin to cytokinin in certain plant tissues determines initiation of root versus shoot buds.

Hope this helps.

The correct answer is to elongate and divide. Differentiation occurs when the region of growth moves higher up.
Now, to a by-the-way. Imagine you have been born. And you're growing. Your legs and feet will always be the same size but the top of your head will always be growing. Infinitely. Something like graphing x squared on y.
