I'm working on a lab report on yeast fermentation, in which yeast was combined with sugar and placed into water heated at different temperatures.

I'm stuck on this question: If yeast had been fed starch as its only carbohydrate source, what would the yeast have to do to the starch prior to fermentation?

My professor is really big on being as descriptive as possible.... any help you can give me would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It would need to enzymatically convert starch into individual sugar molecules (glucose).
