it is indeed a hydrolysis  ( cleavage by water , so a water molecule is added across the  bond )whereby the ether linkage between the two monosaccharides that joined them together in the disaccharide is cleaved . Enzymes called disaccharidases ( i.e., sucrase, maltase, lactase ) located in the microvilli  ( the hair-like projections on the villi of the intestine ) are hydrolases that have specificity for the various disaccharides.The resultant monosaccharides are absorbed by active transport and/or facilitated diffusion processes into the bloodstream.
