Cindy had liposuction to remove adipose tissue years ago. However, she has since gained back nearly all the weight lost through the procedure. She does not understand why she gained weight since she learned that adipocytes lack the ability to divide in adults. Speculate on a reason why she gained weight.

Adipose tissue is the major energy reserve in the body. Adipocytes can increase in size and store more fat if Cindy eats more calories than she uses. Although adipocytes lack the ability to divide, they can still store as much fat as needed.
