Also can  a simple streak across the plate show results? Or does it have to be a closely packed streak? When I was streaking, I accidentally pushed too hard and scratched the agar /:

As long as it is just in part of the plate and you streaked bacteria in other places on the plate, you should be fine.  Also many of the tests using MacConkey agar are looking for pink deposits on the plate, so a simple streak would be okay as long as there are bacteria in it.
