Why were young single women from rural areas of New England attracted to the employment opportunities in the new factory mills of Lowell and other similar towns?
A) These jobs offered these women the prospect of independence, the opportunity to earn their own money, and escape from the depressed New England economy.
B) They were attracted by the opportunity to engage in various and creative labor tasks, safe working conditions, decent pay, and a benevolent owner carefully protecting the health and welfare of their "factory girls."
C) They were attracted by the social opportunities of meeting young men in these towns who might be possible boyfriends or husbands.
D) They believed that if they saved enough money from their wages that they could open their own small businesses and shops to serve these mills.
